Biomedical Therapy: The links below will give you a glimpse of the more invasive, non-medicinal biomedical pathways to treating psychological disorders. Some are more controversial than others and have fallen out of practice. This is certainly the case with trans orbital lobotomies. Similarly, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) became highly controversial during the 1970s and 1980s due to films like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and fell out of favor as an acceptable treatment. ECT has seen a resurgence in use and acceptance over the past two decades, however, as formidable weapon against severe depression.
